SAFETY

Of utmost important to the Hawaii Adaptive Paddling Association is the emphasis on safety for participants and volunteers. Adaptive paddling in the Hawaiian outrigger canoe brings a unique set of challenges to the people who have physical or cognitive conditions that contribute to physical or neurological limitations. By using safety and prosthetic (supportive) equipment, we have been able to overcome many of these challenges and to encourage and support those individuals with such special needs. Our task is to create safety modifications and design equipment to accommodate various levels of injury or disability.

All of Hawaii Adaptive Paddling Association's canoe are specially rigged for safety, and experienced volunteer paddlers accompany participants in the canoe on a 2:1 ratio. Personal flotation devices (life jackets) are provided.

Hawaii Adaptive Paddling Association reserves the right to cancel or postpone any event based on weather or water conditions to ensure the safety of all participants. Participants can check out our home page the morning of the event for any cancellation notices.
